Now that the iOS 6.1 jailbreak has been out for about two weeks now, and there has been over 5 million downloads, I wanted to go over all the benefits of jailbreaking. So if you followed my last tutorial and jailbroke your iPhone or iDevice, your’e probably wondering… well what now!? The first thing you’ll notice is the new Cydia Icon on your home screen. This is where you will be downloading all the wonderful full apps, tweaks, themes, and other goodies available on the Cydia market. Essential what this is, is another app store for your phone where anyone can upload apps to the store without Apple taking 30% of the commission and not having to follow any of Apple’s regulations and rules of the App Store.
The first thing you’re going to want to do is install repositories or repos (abbreviated name), these will allow you to access apps from hosted websites. Its located under manage in the Cydia app under sources.
Some sources that you might want to add are as follow:
To add them just hit edit in the top right corner then add in the left and then type the URL in.
Once you have done this you can now start downloading some cool apps and tweaks. Here are a list of my favorite apps so far.
Auxo (Which updates multitasking and shows you live tile previews of apps check out the video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZWHKtsxY90)
RecognizeMe (This is a cool app that lets you unlock your homescreen with face recognition)
NES AD Plus or ADX add free version
You can also download apps that lets you tether and cool themes. Do some research of your own to find apps that you might want and share them.
*Remember when you search for apps look under the title and it will say “from ‘repository name’ “. So look for one of previous repos that we added to get the free version of the app if its a paid app.
This a good starting point to get familiar with all the benefits of jailbreaking. I purposely chose not too include themes, because a lot of them aren’t equipped or updated for the new iPhone 5 screen size or iOS 6.1 software, I will probably post a future update on themes when there are more abundant. Hope this helps, enjoy!
