Ryukyu Glass Village

After being drenched in the rain on the way to the bus from Okinawa world we got on the bus and headed to the Glass Blowing place. We got to make our own glass cups, we blew the glass, then rolled the rim. They will send us the glass when they are finished setting, there was also a great glassware shop and I picked up a some handmade Okinawa glassware. History
Ryukyu Glass Village is a well known place in Japan that has a leading Okinawan position for souvenirs. Starting during the Meiji period, it has since become a favorite souvenir item amount Japanese tourist. They use all recycled glass and make it by crushing castoff bottles and putting the pulverized glass into a melting kiln. The typical colors consist of vivid reds, blues, greens, browns and so forth. The recycled materials gives Ryukyu glass a distinctive look.
