アイアンマン3 (Iron Man 3) Review

I had my first movie theater experience tonight in Japan, I went and saw Iron Man 3 with Japanese subtitles. I want to tell you a little background knowledge about seeing movies in Japan before I get into the Iron Man 3 review. First off, it’s actually cheaper to see movies at night and is much more common to see movies during the day in Japan. My host mother was surprised when I told her I was going to the late night showing. Not actually sure why this is, maybe cause the train lines don’t run late? Not sure but basically you get the matinee price at night, it’s almost half the regular price. It was still around ¥1200 though so not the cheapest, but still a good deal. Lets get to the review  though, Iron Man 3 was amazing.

If you were let down by the second movie, rest assure the third title is much more story driven. I’m gonna try not to give any spoilers, but this is just a warning, please stop here if  you don’t want any spoilers. The movie starts of with a scene from Tony Stark’s past in 1999, it’s New Years and this scene sets the stage for the villain of the movie. At first this scene doesn’t have much meaning but there is a lot of foreshadowing going on, as you come to find out later. This Iron Man isn’t all about action either, not to say there isn’t in, there is tons. However, Stark is a lot more vulnerable in this movie, and he isn’t always fighting behind his iron suit. He struggles with anxiety a lot throughout the film, and his a much more realistic character in the film. This is the first big block buster of the summer, and is a great movie to kick it off with. I recommend seeing this moving if you’ve seen the first 2 movies in the series, but also seeing The Avengers is important, as there is a lot references throughout the film. Also there is a trailer at the end of the movie for Thor 2, so stay for that if you’re interested. All in all, it was terrific first movie to see in Japan and I look forward to enjoying more summer block buster while abroad, next on my list is the Great Gatsby.

Oh I also got back late, and on my way home and made these cool Cinemagraphs:
