Coffee Roasting!

I’ve been wanting to roast coffee for awhile now, as I considered it the next step in the quest for the perfect cup of coffee. I followed Sweet Marias guide to roasting at home in an air popper popcorn machine. The whole roasting process took about 5 minutes and it was a lot of fun and I look forward to roasting again soon.

Here are the result!

Berlin

It has been over two years since I’ve been in a place where I don’t speak the language. I love the rush of the unknown but I also forget how disorienting it is and if you get lost it’s best to just ask for help. Also it’s good to know 10 or so helpful phrases. I neglected to do that this time and now I’m paying for it. Although I do know bier and wasser, we’ll see if that becomes helpful.
There is so much history in Berlin. I think it’s better if you can to enjoy one historic site at a time and just take in the significance of it all. I’m currently on a double decker bus and I feel like I’m on the Harry Potter night bus. Double decker busses are weird.
Day 4
I finally got to explore Berlin! After a helpful tip from a local I went out with the other night, I was able to go out to Horshke Market. It was a great spot! I spent a couple hours there and was able to get some great souvenirsAfter that, I decided to walk back rather than take the bus. This was a great choice as I was able to explore the Berlin Dome. The architecture was incredible and I can’t fathom how long it took to build.
I was also able to view the east side gallery Berlin Wall. Both of these landmarks were effected by the war, and I can’t imagine how that felt. This beautiful church was caught in the calamity of war, and the whole dome was blown off. I’m so glad it was rebuilt to its previous glory, but it’s also incredibly sad that this along with so many other parts of Berlin were destroyed.
I had a great time in Berlin and would love to go back there because of its rich history.

I plan on doing a top 5 of Berlin next week, so stay tuned!

Nickessity of the Week – Jawbone Up

Wearables are one the big buzz words of 2014 and so far no one has nailed it and stolen the market. I’ve become quite interested in wearables and I don’t believe there is a best one on the market right now that tracks both fitness and acts as a notification center and extension of the phone. I was a Kickstarter backer of the Pebble and have also had the Nike Fuelband, but I think the best fitness tracker currently is the Jawbone Up.

As always I have purchased this item myself, and there are a few reason why I believe it is the best. First and foremost the Jawbone is powered by Motion X and is one of the most accurate motion sensors. Secondly, the Up app is awesome and is constantly improving, it makes it easy to track your sleep, steps, food, and more.

My only complaint is that I’ve had to replace my Up band twice now. That being said, Jawbone is great about their costumer service. It was hassle free to replace the band and I received a new one in the mail in less than a week.

Overall, I would highly recommend this fitness tracker to anyone who wants to start tracking their sleep, sport activities, food, and more. If anything else, the band will make you more conscious about your activity level and you can even compete with your friends that have one as well.

You can purchase a 1st Generation Jawbone Up band at Amazon at a discounted price of $62 (as of date posted) or if you’d like to upgrade to the 2nd generation Up24, with the only difference being bluetooth connectivity, you can do so here too $80 (as of date posted).

*Pending Release of the Jawbone UP 3

Nickessity of the Week – Zojirushi Mug

Since this is the first Nickessity of the week, I’d like to introduce what this weekly post will be. The Nickessity of the week will feature a product that I have purchased myself, whether it be physical or digital, that I think is best in it’s category. This will be a product that I have spent a ton of time researching and it’ll always be something I’ve purchased myself. While this is opinionated, I tend to do a lot of research before purchasing anything, and I look to find something that is minimal and best in its class.

The first “Nickessity” of the week will be the Zojirushi Travel Mug.  This is by far my favorite travel mug and while it works great for holding hot beverages. It does great with hot beverages, but I love using it for ice-cold water, as it’ll stay cold from when I go to bed to when I wake up or throughout the day.

I’ve had a few travel mugs but this is by far the best for a few reasons. Reason number 1, its insulated so that it’ll keep your drinks cold all-day or hot all-day. It usually keeps hot drinks for about 12-16 hours, and cold drinks for about 12 hours. The second reason is that it’s fully leak proof, if the lid is closed you can toss in your bag and don’t have to worry about it spilling. Finally it has a large mouth piece with great flow; your hot tea won’t come rushing down when you go to drink it, but instead will come out slow and evenly.

Overall I’d recommend this travel mug to anyone that wants an awesome water bottle or a great mug for keeping your coffee or tea hot. Both sizes are good, I currently have the Black 16oz mug, which can be found here.

Update

I wanted to start blogging again, since it’s been a while since I’ve made it a weekly thing and have an idea of what I’d like to do next with this blog. I plan to take the blog into a new direction, while not eliminating previous focuses, such as tech, games, media, and travel. I want to expand the blog, while also having more reviews and content that can only be found here. I plan to start up a new weekly post called, the Weekly Good (pending till I come up with a better name). This is one such post, in which the content can only be found on this site.

The idea behind the Weekly Good is to share what I think is the best product in a certain category, while this is a opinionated I tend to do a lot of research before purchasing anything, I look to find something that is minimal and best in its class. The Weekly Post will feature a product I found to be best in class, and something that I have purchased myself. It will be starting this Wednesday and I look forward to sharing it with you.

Mario Kart 8!

Mario Kart 8 launches tomorrow and will hopefully sell some Wii U consoles and I know Nintendo is hoping for that. I got an exclusive look at some of the packaging for the game and the limited edition stuff that comes with it. Check out the picture below!
